Funk Meets the West Coast

Generation P pairs Jay Worthy with George Clinton over 12 tracks produced by LNDN DRGS. Guests include Snoop Dogg, Larry June and Ty Dolla $ign.

Jay Worthy has built his new album around one of funk’s founding figures. Generation P teams the rapper with George Clinton and LNDN DRGS, the production duo Worthy forms with Sean House, across 12 tracks that Northeast Times described as a bridge between funk and Hip-Hop.

The guest list is long. HotNewHipHop named Snoop Dogg, Larry June, Ty Dolla $ign, Del the Funky Homosapien, Ab-Soul and YG among the features. The Artist Connect reported that the lead single, “Knee Deep,” came with an official video. Northeast Times added that the rollout included a 16-bit video game built around the track “P of the Week,” a side-scroller that borrows from Super Mario and Streets of Rage.

This wasn’t their first meeting. Northeast Times said Worthy and Clinton had already worked together on the 2025 track “P Funkentelechy,” and Shazam’s artist bio lists Clinton among the guests on Worthy’s 2025 full-lengths Once Upon a Time and Once Upon a Time 2.

The pairing makes sense on paper. iHeart describes Worthy as favoring slow to midtempo productions from the mellow, funky end of late-’70s and early-’80s R&B. Spin reported that he grew up in Vancouver listening to MC Eiht and Ice Cube and left Canada at 17, and The Artist Connect says he represents Compton. In 2022 he made 2 P’z in a Pod with Larry June, who also appears on Generation P; see our piece on Larry June
